Are Single Women Thriving In Real Estate?
What is known about women and real estate?
An article was posted on January 9th, 2020 titled “Single women are losing out in the housing market. Here’s what they can do about it”.
A recent study by Yale School Management discovered that “single women, on average, pay 2% more for the same house as a single man and sell for 2% less.”
So how is that? Well, women are more likely to purchase a home at a higher listed price on the market and more likely to sell their homes for a lower listed price. They even discovered that women negotiate for discounts that are worse than relative prices.
Women can’t negotiate according to their studies?? More like it’s society standards, dependent on single women more likely being a parent, and women prioritizing life decisions rather than financial decisions when buying a home. We’d recap the article for you, but it’s best if you read it over for yourself.
Lori certainly doesn’t agree that women are incapable of negotiating. And research shows that it isn’t the women’s ability to negotiate that results with the financial disadvantage. It’s because of the other side--the negotiator! Women are “penalized for ‘leaning in’ and negotiating at all.”

Women are out there buying houses, “outpacing men 110%”. Why is that? Because she believes that women are willing to make that purchase. They’re getting those home sweet homes.”
